May has officially arrived, and here at Deconstruct the Yuck we are on to our next challenge: Find the Kind. To review, we have completed 4 challenges so far: Less is More, Sugar Rehab, Vanity Insanity and Green Please. Can you believe we are 1/3 of the way through this year already???
Now, back to Find the Kind. Find the Kind is all about sharing the love! For the entire month of May, Meagan and I are going to do one act of kindness each and every day. You may be wondering, what ‘yuck’ is being deconstructed with the Find the Kind challenge? (Okay, maybe you’re not wondering that, but just go with me here…). Have you ever felt let down by people? You know, the person who changes lanes in heavy traffic, then cuts in ahead of you and can’t be bothered to lift their hand for the courtesy ‘thank you’ wave? Or, when you hold the door open for someone while lugging your own heavy bags and they cruise into the building without even an even acknowledgement? (This happened to me just today, by the way). Or, even worse, you hear story after story in the news about people hurting each other in all sorts of ways and you’re left feeling shocked, disappointed and sometimes even scared. If you’re anything like me, you’ve struggled at times to simply maintain hope and faith in humanity.
Well, that’s what this challenge is for: Just as our picture demonstrates, kindness connects people. Kindness opens hearts. Kindness renews hope and faith in humanity.
Of all the challenges we are taking on this year, Find the Kind is likely the one in which you can most easily take part. We’d love to hear your stories of how you’ve shown kindness to another person, the planet, or even yourself. Kindness is infectious. So here’s to a month of celebrating kindness and spreading the love!
PS – I completely forgot to report on my last Green Please post that I successfully went through the entire month without using even 1 disposable cup (for hot or cold beverages). Being kind to the planet: check!
