Well, after an eventful month of “Find the Kind” we are moving on to a new month and a new challenge. For the month of June, Kyla and I will be working on “Fitness First” here at deconstruct the yuck! Our goal this month, will be to put our personal fitness before the myriad of other obligations pulling us in every direction. We are committing to do something active, once a day, for the entire month of June.
A shudder just went done my spine.
I’m not going to lie… this challenge terrifies me. In fact, I have been trying to build up my fitness levels for the past SEVEN weeks to prepare for this month. EVERY DAY??? How will that even be possible??? I have no idea how I am going to pull this one off – but I’m going to give it my all.
The picture we have created to depict this month tells the story of my worry. There are endless things in life that I always seem to have to do before I work out. Each of the items you see in the photo represent these obligations; a pot for the endless purchasing, cleaning, preparing, serving and cleaning up of meals, a spray bottle depicting the keeping of the home (inside and out), a computer representing work, keys for the hours I spend in the car, driving to and from school and other events, a pillow for sleep (that is ever-elusive), a cell phone for the “technology-suck” we all experience these days, a book to represent personal time (bah, ha, ha, ha!), crayons to symbolize our children and a toque – because I swear it is often the weather here in Calgary that is the biggest deterrent of all (Run in -30 and 5 feet of snow anyone? Ya, that’s what I thought). And, on top of it all (hopefully squashing all these obligations) are my running shoes!
I am hoping this month I can find a way to put my own, personal fitness needs before everything else, in quest of a better balance. That is the goal (with each of our challenges really)… balance.
Sounds nice, doesn’t it?
Will you join us?
