Well, we are nearing the end of our sugar rehab challenge, and I gotta say I’m not too heartbroken over it, but I’ll get more into that on my next post 😉
For today’s post, I’m just going to put it out there: really, how much can someone blog about sugar anyhow? Over the past couple of days I have had thoughts such as, what on earth am I going to write about for my next post? You see, not only are our monthly challenges sufficiently challenging, but sometimes figuring what to write about is too! Especially at the tail end of a month!
Then, this morning I read an email from my dad. It said:
“Check this out …… Just a sample ….. not one ounce of refined sugar used anywhere – guaranteed. This was served at our grand opening and the guests raved about it.”
And, his email came with pictures too:
Phew!!! Thanks dad.
I should explain. So my dad has overseen an affordable seniors housing project and they have recently opened their first home called Hearthside Place in Saskatchewan (for more info check them out at http://www.hearthside.ca). Part of their services include an in-home cook who prepares regular, healthy meals for the residents. Well, they had their grand opening and our little blog project inspired them to serve food without any refined sugar! Moreover, our ‘sugar rehab’ challenge has also made an impact on their overall menu planning!
It is really encouraging for us over here at Deconstruct the Yuck to learn that our message is not only getting out there, but is actually helping to inform the food choices offered to this group of seniors. Happy eating Hearthside residents!
Now, if only we could somehow involve the littler ones in our society to ‘sack the sugar’ and learn about healthy food options… hmm…
